Masking An Easy Background using the Ai Scenic Foundations (PART 1 OF 3)

I am starting a three part series using the wonderful Ai Scenic Foundations stamp sets….but we are going to be doing them in a completely different way! I want to show you how to change up the way that you use your images or the way the were intended to be used! Also, if you are a bit intimidated by the watercolor stamping techniques this three part series will give you some fun alternatives!

Today, in Part 1, we will be using the SF Beach Cabin Set (5749) to create a beautiful background using some simple masking techniques and the Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Inks. This is a simple and easy way to set the scene for our Scenic Foundations stamps.

In Part 2, we will be creating a mixed media tag card using the SF Village Set (5746) and a water coloring technique using the Tim Holtz Mini Ink Pads.

And in Part 3, we will be creating a set of note cards by stenciling a pretty sunburst background with a vellum overlay by using the remaining four sets from the Summer of 2023 release!

Let’s first stamp the image onto some Strathmore Bristol Smooth Cardstock in a light gray ink. This light inking will allow us to determine where to place our masking tape and where to apply ink for the sky, beach and water. Next we can mask off sections of the card panel and ink one section at a time.

Now we can stamp the images onto some pretty patterned paper from the Ai Easter Paper Pack to create our cabin, beach umbrella, hat and sailboats! We will do some fussy cutting and then we can attach these to some white cardstock.

Once these items are assembled, we can attach the items onto the background using the original stamping to line up the images.

Now we can take the pretty scallop die from the Ai Journal Template Die Set (5543) and die cut the scene and a white scallop panel as well. We can glue these two together by offsetting them a bit to create a white edge on the top and left side.

Next we can use the Sizzix 3-D Embossing Folder – Tropical Leaves to add some dimension to the card panel. Let’s also ink this up with the Tim Holtz Peacock Feathers ink. This will highlight the details of the embossing!

We can now wrap some pretty violet/white twine around the card panel and tie a bow!

Let’s assemble the card and add a few pretty gems to tie everything together!
