Mixed Media Tag Card using the Ai Scenic Foundations (PART 2 OF 3)

Today’s video is Part 2 of a three part series using the wonderful Ai Scenic Foundations stamp sets….but we are going to be doing them in a completely different way! I want to show you how to change up the way that you use your images or the way the were intended to be used! Also, if you are a bit intimidated by the watercolor stamping techniques this three part series will give you some fun alternatives!

Today we will be creating this mixed media tag card using the Ai Scenic Foundations Village Set (5746)! As soon as I saw this image I knew it had to be used as a travel or adventure style card. My stamping friends and I always say that the stamps speak to us and tell us what to do…lol!

In Part 1, we will use the SF Beach Cabin Set (5749) to create a beautiful background using some masking tape and the Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Inks. This is a simple and easy way to set the scene for our Scenic Foundations stamps. If you haven’t seen Part 1 yet, and you would like to, it is linked here:

And in Part 3, we will be creating a set of note cards by stenciling a pretty sunburst background with a vellum overlay by using the remaining four sets from the Summer of 2023 release!

For today’s card we will start by die cutting a tag from the Scrapbook.com Yay Tag Set. Next we can stamp this beautiful scene onto the tag.

For the coloring we will be using the Tim Holtz Mini Dye Ink Pads in the following colors: Crushed Olive, Fossilized Amber, Rusty Hinge, Gathered Twigs, Black Soot, Aged Mahogany, Crackling Campfire Speckled Egg, Weathered Wood, Stormy Sky, and Rustic Wilderness.

We will be applying a small amount of each of these colors on to our glass media mat and picking up the colors using a #0 paint brush. Keep in mind that we want to give the images a rustic or vintage look….so we don’t want the coloring to be perfect! This combination of colors will be perfect for this aged/vintage affect.

Next we will add a bit of color around the edges of the tag using TH Gathered Twigs and Black Soot. Then let’s spatter the tag using the TH Gathered Twigs ink.

Now we can emboss background for the card using the TH Sizzix 3-D Texture Fades in the Cracked Leather….love this embossing folder! We will add some more ink to this background and spatter it as well.

To create even more texture and interest let’s take a piece of corrugated cardboard and tear the top edge and add some ink.

For some shine we will be adding the TH Distress Embossing Glaze in Fired Brick to the corrugated cardboard and the bottom of the tag! This powder is so great because it is translucent and allows the colors and images to show through!

We will also add a lovely TH Quote Chip which says “Travel the world to find the beautiful” and we will also add another sentiment which says “Adventure Awaits” from the TH Metallic Stickers.

Let’s add a few gems in a vintage looking matte gold color!

Tim Holtz Mixed Media – Blossom Vignette Box

I’ve got a really special mixed media project to show you today using the most beautiful floral die set from Tim Holtz called the Sizzix Thinlits Blossom Die! This very large floral and leaves set is going to be just perfect for our vignette box project! I’ll show you how to color and layer this flower and leaf for extra dimension.

I thought it would be fun to do the coloring using the Tim Holtz Distress Crayons in a variety of pinks and purples. I’ll give you a little tip for being able to easily color with these crayons! We will also be using the crayons to add color to some of the metal embellishments!

The box will be the base of this project and is from the Tim Holtz idea-ology – Vignetter Boxes – Squares set.

We will be using a ton of Tim Holtz products today including the quote chips, droplets, ribbons and bows, word tags, velvet trim, vintage flair, odds and ends, and butterflies! By adding all of these unique items we can give our project lots of interest and dimension. This is a great time to dig through your own personal stash of embellishments to se what you may already have to add to your project!

Let’s also grab some beautiful paper from the Tim Holtz Abandoned Paper Pad. This will have some of the pinks and purples that we need to make this flower pop!

For a bit of a metallic look on various pieces of this design as well as the box itself, we will be using the Tim Holtz Distress Foundry Wax in Sterling. I’ll talk about this product in some additional detail in the video, since there are a few important things you should know about this very special and unique product!

In this video I will show you lots of fun techniques and ideas for adding interest to your mixed media projects! So let’s go ahead and get started!!!

Today I am very excited to be showing you a Mixed Media card using the wonderful Tim Holtz Sizzix Thinlits Gentlemen Die Set! In this set you will get three gentlemen dies and a fun little umbrella and cane!

I have decided to show you this wonderful set in a Two Part Series. I didn’t want each of the videos to be too long….so I have split it into two parts. In Part 2 we will be using the Gentlemen dies again and also the new Lost Shadow Ink, the Distress Embossing Glaze, the Bold Text Die Set, and a fun three part stencil. This video will be available very soon!

So let’s get started on the card for today by using the Tim Holtz Sizzix 3-D Tree Rings Texture Fades. This will give us a great textural woodgrain background.

Now we can add some TH Distress Oxide Sprays to give this background some color using Lumberjack Plaid, Walnut Stain and Pumice Stone. These colors will blend together perfectly!

To give the background some added texture we are going to add the TH Distress Glaze in Lumberjack Plaid. Keep in mind that this is a translucent powder…so you can see all the colors underneath the glaze…which makes it so unique!

Let’s die cut several of the Gentlemen out of the TH Black Heavystock. We can layer up quite a few of these to create a thick chipboard-like embellishment.

We can do some quick spattering on the background and the Gentleman. Now let’s add some fun ephemera from the Tim Holtz idea-ology collection and a few metal stars!

Finally, we will be adding some TH Distress Foundry Wax. This will give the card a metallic look on the background and some of our embellishments. I will discuss a few tips and tricks for using this amazing product!

Tim Holtz True Love Mixed Media Project

Today let’s create a sweet “true love” mixed media project! We will be using the brand new Tim Holtz Sizzix Thinlits True Love Colorize Die Set. This wonderful set creates some yummy chocolates and the box for these chocolates. These are really fun and easy to create! I will show you in detail how to assemble and embellish these little candies as well as the box!

We will start with an unfinished wood frame that measures approximately 8″x8″. I picked this up at my local craft store. I sanded it and gave it a couple of coats of paint using a pretty “Oyster Beige” color.

To create the bow for our box top we will be using the Tim Holtz Sizzix Thinlits Bowtied Colorize Die Set. Again, I will show you in detail how to easily assemble this beautiful bow.

We will be embossing the box top with the Tim Holtz Sizzix Textured Impressions Swirls Embossing Folder using the Tim Holtz idea-ology – Kraft-Stock Metallic Classics in gold.

Let’s grab some patterned papers from the Tim Holtz idea-ology – Worn Wallpaper Scraps and the Backdrops Volume #1. We will also be using some die cuts from the Tim Holtz idea-ology – Layers Botanicals collection.

For some added elegance and shimmer we will apply some of the Tim Holtz Distress Foundry Wax in the “Gilded” gold color. I’ll give you a few tips and tricks for using this fun product!

Let’s add some fun sentiments to our project using the Tim Holtz idea-ology – Label Stickers Sentiments.

We will also add some pretty matte gold pearls and some Tim Holtz Mica Flakes for added sparkle and interest!

Let’s create a fun mixed media holiday project with loads of wonderful products from the Tim Holtz Collection!

To set the scene for our project we will be using a pretty Tim Holtz idea-ology Baseboard from the Christmas/Noel Collection. These baseboards have a thick, chipboard type quality to them. Let’s add some texture to this baseboard by adding some TH Distress Grit Paste in Snowfall. This will dry clear and give and icy/snowy texture. We can use this baseboard to create a window for our scene which will include a beautiful deer from the TH Sizzix Thinlits Darling Deer Die Set. We will color the deer using a sponge dauber and some TH Distress Inks.

We can now add some snow drifts and then we can ink up the background for the scene again using some TH Distress Oxide Inks!

Next we can go back to the Baseboard collection and grab a few stars and a sentiment strip. To embellish these stars we can add a TH idea-ology Mirrored Star to the center of each of these chipboard stars. This will add some sparkle!

Now let’s use a beautiful poinsettia die cut from the TH idea-ology Worn Wallpaper Scraps. This set contains several patterned papers, pretty die cuts, and some border strips!

We can add a cute little bow using the TH Sizzix Thinlits Fireside Die Set. Let’s layer this up to add extra dimension.

Once we have attached all of our elements to our project we will be using the TH Distress Foundry Wax in the Gilded (golden color). We can apply this using a sponge dauber and we want to be sure to heat set this foundry wax in order to attach it to our project and bring out the shine! I’ve added it to the stars and around the edges of the baseboard. It just makes everything pop!!!

Add a bit of crystal glaze to the berries for even more dimension and a few metallic pearls in a matte gold to the center of the poinsettia and bow!

The final finishing touch is to add a spattering of white gesso to the entire project for a gorgeous snowy look and to tie the entire project together!

I’m making my mixed media project as a gift, so I am going to include a little black wooden easel to hold the project. This makes a great gift for a co-worker, friend, teacher….I think just about everyone would love to have a fun handmade holiday gift!

Let’s take another look at the new Tim Holtz 2022 Halloween – Trick or Treat – Colorize Die Set! We previously use this set to create the spooky eyes from this set in our cathedral window which you can check out here if you missed it! Just click on this link – Tim Holtz 2022 Halloween – Trick or Treat Colorize . However, this time we will be using the wonderful, extra large sized, yummy, candy corn die.

To create our tag base we will be using the Tim Holtz Sizzix Thinlits – Framed Tags! For added interest, this tag is designed so that it can be ink up and it will also emboss a frame around the die. This will add so much interest and dimension to this tag!

Next, let’s sponge on some distress oxide inks in a few colors to give this a more vintage look! We will also add some patterned paper to this tag and tear the edges. We can then spatter this with some Distress Oxide Ink. Now we will add some TH Distress Crackle Texture Paste using the TH Stampers Anonymous Mini Layering Stencil. Once this paste dries we can add some ink over the top of the crackled areas to darken the cracks for a more aged look. This just looks so cool….I never get tired of watching this crackle paste magic!

We will be using the Tim Holtz 2022 Halloween Distress Pearlized Crayons to color the pieces need to create the candy corn. I’ll show you how to assemble this colorized image very simply and easily!

We need a container to fill with our candy corn….so let’s grab the TH Bigz – Potted #2 steel rule die. We will die cut this using some TH Distress Woodgrain Cardstock in Gray and Black. These are also new products for Christmas and Halloween this year!

We can die cut the word “CANDY” and layer up several letters for added dimension. Now let’s add some black cording, a skull and crossbones, a few Halloween embellishments…and then do one final spattering of the entire tag!

Tim Holtz 2022 Halloween – DIY Halloween Bottles/Decor

I’m am so very excited to show you todays project!!! We will be creating some spooky Halloween bottles using several products from the Tim Holtz brand new 2022 Halloween Collection!

To get started we will need a few glass bottles….I got mine at my local craft store…but any bottles you have will do. Let’s color them with the TH Alcohol Pearl Inks. We will just simply pat on the color using a felt applicator tool…but be sure to have a well ventilated area! These inks will leave a beautiful pearl finish to our bottles. Next we can sponge on a bit of TH Black Soot acrylic paint to give the bottles a more vintage spooky look! Note: These bottles should never be used for food or liquid items!

We will also apply the black paint to the corks and set those aside to dry and then we can glue on the scary skulls to each of the corks. We will wrap the bottles with some TH Paper Stash – Abandoned paper which has the look of lightening…so cool!

We will use that same paper pack to die cut several feathers from the TH Sizzix Thinlits – Feathery die set. Then let’s add some of the fantastic TH Distress Embossing Glazes to each of the feathers. This will give them a beautiful glazed effect and add some additional texture. Remember this glaze is translucent and will allow the paper colors to show through but will give a tint of color and glaze to each of our feathers.

Now we can select a paper doll for each of the bottles using the TH Paper Dolls – Halloween collection. We can also select a sentiment from the TH Sticker Book – Curiosities. We will add a bit of TH Grit Paste – Crypt, TH Crossbones, TH Heirloom Florals, TH Boneyard bones and much more!

Let’s wrap the bottles with some TH Fringe, black cording, and twine!

Now we can add some TH Droplets – Halloween in the three colors and sizes included in this set!

Today I’ve got something new to show you! I thought I would show you how I created a journal page using lots of Tim Holtz products…but the focus will be on the brand new Sizzix Thinlits – Feathery Dies from the 2022 Halloween Release! We will be creating a beautiful dreamcatcher with these wonderful feather dies.

In order to create our pages we will be using so many great products including some Tim Holtz Stamps, Distress Glaze, Distress Paint, Distress Inks, Collage Medium and so much more!

In this video, I will give you lots of tips and tricks for adding layers of paper, paint, inks and stamping to your pages in order to set the scene for your project.

In order to create the dreamcatcher we will be using a set of circle dies from the Sizzix Framelits w/ Stamps – Circle Sentiments Set. This is a great time to look through your circles dies and see what you may already have that would work well for creating your dreamcatcher…you may even want to use a mandala die for this project.

To die cut these beautiful feathers we will be using the “Carta Bella Paper Pad 6”x6” – Welcome Fall” in some gorgeous Fall colors!

We will also be using our Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pens to add some details and to add shadowing and highlighting to our images….this will give a more three dimensional look!

Tim Holtz Distress Embossing Glaze w/ Distress Crayons

Today we will be creating two mixed media tags using the Tim Holtz Embossing Glazes, Distress Crayons, Collage Papers and a bit of Texture Paste!!! Let’s start by adding the beautiful TH Botanical Collage Paper. What is really wonderful about the products that we are using today is that the beautiful pattern on the collage paper will still show through all of the layers of color that we will be adding!

Now we can add some color to our background using the TH Distress Crayons in a variety of colors. To spread these colors onto the tag, we will use a baby wipe. This will allow us to moisten our finger, which will in turn, allow us to easily blend out our crayons.

Next we will add some of the TH Distress Glazes by adding some clear embossing ink using the Ranger Emboss It Dabber. This will allow us to be very specific about where we are adding our ink and glazes. Once the ink has been applied we can sprinkle on the Embossing Glaze and tap off the excess. You will want to do one color at a time so that you don’t contaminate the embossing powder with one another. The glaze again will allow the pretty pattern of the collage paper to show through since the powders are very translucent, yet super shiny!

Let’s also add some TH Texture Paste using the Stampers Anonymous Mini Stencils (Set 35)! This will add lots of texture and dimension.

Now we can select some butterflies from the TH Transparency Wings Collections and we can shape these a bit by carefully folding down the centers. Then we will add some pretty gems to the center of each of the butterflies.

More texture and interest will be added by using the TH 3-D Texture Fades Embossing Folder (Intertwine) and adding some paper pieces to the bottom of the tags.

Let’s take a few fun sentiments from the TH Label Stickers (Thoughts) and cut them up to give the tags a more whimsical look!

Finally, we can add some beautiful TH Velvet Trims for a finishing touch!

Mixed Media Tag Card – Sassy Lady!

I can’t wait to show you one of my absolute favorite stamp sets from the Art Impressions Spring 2022 Collection! This lovely lady is from the brand new Ai Sassy Laugh Lines Set (5517) which is part of the always popular Girlfriend Collection! This set contains the funniest sentiments that a sassy lady would say … and there are tons of them!

As soon as I saw this image I thought she was just screaming out to be on a mixed media project! I thought it would be so much fun to put her on a tag card….and I will show you how to easily create this card using your Ai Tag Stitched Die Set (5132). She would also be great in a journal, scrapbook page, or altered book project.

I will show you how to create a fun leopard print background using a stencil, some Distress Oxide Inks, a Sponge Dauber and a Detail Blending Brush!

We will be using a ton of different products today including some Mica Spray, Antique Crystal Gems, Heirloom Roses, Gilding Polish, Gold Thread, Velvet Ribbon, Metallic Cardstock and so much more! All of these products will add lots and lots of texture, dimension and interest to our tag. I will link a few videos that I have previously done using the Metallic Gilding Polishes if you are interested.

To color the image we will be using the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens in the following colors: Blender, Flesh Color, Lt Pink, Lt Brown, Lt Gray, and Black.

This tag card is just perfect for Ai’s current blog challenge which is called “Tickle Our Funny Bone”. Please feel free to join in our current challenge… we would love to see your funny and silly cards that are sure to make us smile!
