Cute as a Button – Shaker Card!

I’m really excited to be the featured artist for the next wonderful Ai Blog Challenge. This new “Button Up” Challenge is asking us to use real buttons, or images with buttons, patterned papers with buttons, or even a button die, which we will be using today!

We will be creating some cute little shaker windows for our baby pandas and a wonderful cake! This card can be used for Valentine’s Day, Birthday, or a Friendship card!

To begin, we will stamp, die cut, and color the images. For the coloring we will be using the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens in the following colors: Blender, Lt Pink, Wine Red, Oatmeal, Dk Oatmeal, Lt Gray, Dk Gray.

Now we can create the cute sweater background using a wonderful stencil from Lawn Fawn and some pretty Tim Holtz Distress Oxide ink in Kitsch Flamingo. Once the panel is stenciled, we can add a darker pink color around the edges using the Simon Hurley Ink Pad in Prom Queen. That will frame this panel nicely. For some added interest we will spatter this panel with the Tim Holtz Distress Spritz in Kitsch Flamingo and that same Prom Queen ink.

Next, let’s stamp three dotted circles from the Ai Frameworks Set 2 (6026) and then using the Ai Nested Circle Dies (5726) we can die cut a circle in the center of each of the dotted circles. These circles will allow us to create three little circle shakers on the front of the card!

I’ll show you exactly how to create the shaker portions of this card in today’s video. We will add some pretty Pink & Main Confetti to each of the shaker pockets using Prom Dress, Diamond, Christmas Red. I’ll also show you a little trick for easily lining up the shaker element to your card!

We can attach the shaker panel to a square card base. Let’s also add a sentiment that says, “You’re the BEARY BEST!” which will be stamped onto some black cardstock and embossed with white embossing powder and die cut as a banner using the Ai Journal Template Die Set (5543). We can also stamp another small “Sending Love!” sentiment onto the card front.

Now we will create a pretty twine bow using the Lawn Fawn Dusty Rose Hemp Twine. To this bow we will add a cute little button. This button will be die cut from the Ai Sew Mini Dies (5326) and inked with that same Prom Queen ink so that everything will match perfectly! I layered several buttons dies together for a thicker, more realistic button. We can add a few white polka dots to this button using a white gel pen.

Let’s attach the button to our pretty bow and then add this to the banner sentiment. We can pop-up the sentiment banner with some small 3D foam squares for added dimension.

For a finishing touch, lets add some glaze to the heart on the cake and a bit of glitter, and also a few sprinkles using our black gel pen.

By adding just that one simple button we have really added some fun, sweet dimension and interest! Don’t forget to join us in this fun challenge…we would love to see what you create!

Today I’m very excited to share with you the Simon Says Stamp/Art Impressions 2025 -LIMITED EDITION – Boba Babes stamp set! This fantastic set has two little ladies enjoying their boba tea and several fun coordinating sentiments. This fun collaboration is only offered until they are sold out….so if you love it you may want to order it right away!

We will be creating a beautiful coffee/tea background using our Alcohol Inks in Espresso, Sepia, Butterscotch, and Snow Cap. I will show you exactly how I did this in today’s video! If you haven’t used your alcohol inks in a while you may want to pull them out and play with them after you see them in action on this card.

We will also be creating a shaker card using our alcohol inked background for the inside of the shaker. To create the pretty frame, we will be using the new Ai Scalloped Square Dies (6047), for the cute little tag we will use the Ai Journal Template Set (5543), and for the coffee beans we will use the Ai Java GCH Set (5343). Again, for the assembly of the shaker element I will refer you to the video where there will be lots of tips and tricks for creating a perfect shaker.

Let’s stamp the Boba Babes and color them using the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens in the following colors: Blender, Sugared Almond Pink, Pale Rose, Yellow, Flesh Colour, Lt Beige, Beige, Mid Brown, Brick Beige, Lt Brown, Sand, Brown, Haze Blue.

For the card base, we will use some kraft cardstock and a textured brown cardstock for the layering piece. Now we can add the shaker element to the card, tie on the little tag with our “Sip-Sip Hooray” sentiment and add a few beans and a few sparkly gems to complete the front of the card.

For the inside of the card, let’s use a left-over piece of the alcohol inked paper and add a strip of that to the stitched square that we cut from our scalloped frame. This is a great way to use all of our left-over pieces so that nothing goes to waste! We will also add a few beans to the inside and another sentiment from this same set that says, “Here’s to Sweet Sips and Big Gulps”.

Shaker Dome Tri-Fold Card!

Today we will be creating a tri-fold card with a twist! We will also be adding a shaker dome to the opening of the tri-fold card. This will create a fun, interactive, and unique card!

Let’s start by stamping floral image using the new Ai Hydrangea Floral Set (6062). Next, we can color this image using the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens in the following colors: Blender, Sugared Almond Pink, Blossom Pink, Ice Blue, Turquoise Green.

I’ll be honest, I was engineering this card design as I went along, and you will see that in today’s video. I will give you all of the instructions and dimensions in the video. I will also include some of my mistakes and how I fixed them or worked around them.

I will show you all of the products that I used in today’s video, and at this point, I think it is easiest to send you directly to the video for all of the details and instructions, since I think it will be easier for you to follow. I hope you get inspired to give this a try!

Using your Alpha & Numeric dies to create a Patriotic shaker card!

Let’s create a fun Patriotic Shaker Card today! We will be using the brand-new Ai Large Letter Die Set (5910) and Ai Large Number Die Set (5911). These large dies are perfect for creating this style of card but would also be great on your scrapbook pages and journal pages!

This card goes along perfectly with the current Ai “ABC, 123” Blog Challenge which is to use your number, or letter dies to create a unique card or project!

We will begin by creating the shaker element for the card. To do this we will be using the Ai Journal Template Die Set (5543). We will grab the Scalloped Rectangle Die and the Window Frame Die. Let’s die cut the Scalloped Rectangle from some pretty red cardstock and a Window Frame from some bluejay cardstock.

We can assemble these two together by adding some clear acetate. Next, we can add some 3D Foam Strips and then add our cute little “Firecracker” embellishments and use some sparkly cardstock for the background panel. I will give you all of the instructions and details for the assembly in today’s video….it is quick and easy to do!

Now that the shaker element is complete, we can die cut a plaid panel for the front of the card using the Ai Rectangle A2 Double Stitched Dies (5063). Let’s add this to a white card base!

Now we can die cut the letters to create the word “July” using some red and white striped cardstock. Let’s also die cut the number “4” out of that same red cardstock we used earlier. We will also cut a few extras out of some white cardstock, glue them together, for added dimension and interest. Next, let’s glue the letters into each of the window frame openings and add a pretty sparkly scalloped circle in the center of the card for our number.

By adding a few of the “firecracker” shaker bits to the front of the card we can bring the card together nicely!

Keep in mind that this card design would be great if you change out your papers and colors and die cut the word “baby”, “hope”, “love” or even a name! A date would also work well, such as, “2024” for a graduation, wedding date or birthday! Just have some fun!

Get Well Shaker Card – Doggy Kisses!

Today we will be creating a cheerful get-well shaker card using the Ai Doggy Kisses Set (AiCS38) which includes several cute little dogs, paws, a bandage, tissues w/ mug and several coordinating sentiments!

This card was inspired by the current Ai “I like to move it, move it!” Blog Challenge! Just as the name implies, we are looking for cards that shake, rattle and roll! Whether it be a shaker card, as we will be creating today, or a slider card, a card that wobbles, or anything else you can think of that adds movement to your card or project!

Let’s begin by stamping and coloring the dog and several bandages using the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens in the following colors: Blender, Tea Rose, Carmine Red, Scarlet Red, Yellow, May Green, Green, Aquamarine Blue, Cobalt Blue, Lt Gray, Beige, Mid Brown. We can now fussy cut the images with some detail scissors and leave a little white border all the way around.

Now let’s create the front shaker panel for the card using the largest die from the Ai Nested Rectangle Dies (5724). We will also use the Ai Nested Heart Dies (5721) to create the window opening and to create a scalloped heart frame.

We will ink around the edges of the panel and the scallop frame using some “sand dune” ink and a small blending brush.

Using a piece of clear acetate cut down to fit behind this rectangular panel we will stamp our sentiment in some permanent “snowflake” ink. This sentiment will say “Hope it won’t take too long to recover” which is from this same stamp set and is perfect for this card! Go ahead and attach the acetate to this panel using some double-sided tape.

Next, we will add some 3D Foam Tape to the back of this panel so that we can create the shaker element for this card (I will show you exactly how to do this in today’s video). We will place some pretty and colorful sequins inside the shaker area and attach the front panel to our card base. The card base is a standard A2 size top folding card which will measure 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″.

Now let’s finish decorating the front of the card by adding the little puppy, a few bandages, and some pretty sequins! We will also add a few of the clay hearts from this sequin mix to the center of each of the bandages.

For the inside of the card, we will stamp “Thinking of you” onto the leftover heart that was created when we die cut the front panel. Don’t forget to ink the edges of this heart as well and add a few more bandages!

For some added fun you can add a bandage or two to the flap on the envelope! I think that anyone feeling a bit under the weather would love to receive this sweet get-well card!

Direct-To-Paper Monochromatic Shaker Card!

Today let’s create a pretty monochromatic card in yellows and oranges! For some additional fun, we will add a cute little shaker element!

We will start by stamping the cute little bunny in this pretty flower. We can quickly color this image using the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens in the following colors: Blender, Lt Pink, Lt Gray, Yellow, Orange, Bright Yellow, May Green, Green.

Next, let’s create the background for our card using the Ai Nested Rectangle Dies (5724). Once this panel is die-cut we will do a fun and simple direct-to-paper technique using some beautiful pigments ink pads in yellows and oranges. This technique is exactly how it is named “direct-to-paper” which is where we will apply the ink directly to the paper from the ink pad. Just rub the colors onto the paper…I like to go light to dark…but any way you like is fine! I will show you exactly what I mean in today’s video! Each time you do this you will get a different result which is really the fun in this technique!

Now we will die-cut the scalloped rectangle frame using the Ai Journal Rectangle Frames (5591). We will die-cut it once from some orange cardstock and another time in white. Let’s also stamp the sentiment that says “Some Bunny Loves You” using the same stamp set onto the orange frame.

Now we can cut a piece of clear acetate to fit behind the frame and glue the orange frame, acetate and white frame together. Let’s add some 1/8″ foam strips behind this frame so that we can place our pretty shaker elements inside. It’s fun to glue a few of these elements on the inside of the shaker so that when it sits upright you still have a few elements up at the top of the shaker.

Let’s assemble the top layers and add some pretty yellow and white twine just below the frame for some added interest.

Now we can use some 3D Foam Tape to add all of this layering to the front of our white card base! And as a final touch, let’s add some little hearts around the frame and some glossy yellow “Pops of Color” along the scalloped edge and around the hearts!

New Year’s Eve is coming soon, and I thought it would be fun to create a mixed media tag with a surprise shaker element! We will be using several products from the Tim Holtz Collection including some wonderful “Vault Dies”, Grit Paste, Metallic Cardstock, Velvet Trims, Locket Key and Ball Chain, Sparkle Papers and so much more!

I’m creating the tag for a New Year’s Eve 2025 hostess gift. However, you could easily leave off the date and use this for any occasion. This would be great for a graduation by just placing the graduation year inside the tag, retirement, or even someone’s age for a big birthday celebration!

For the base of this tag, we will use the wonderful Tim Holtz Sizzix Thinlits – Vault Watch Gears Die Set. This will give us the elements needed to create the “pocket watch” layers and numbers. We will also use the Tim Holtz Sizzix Thinlits – Vault Christmas Magic Die Set for our focal element which is the magical city scape!

I am going to refer you directly to today’s video so that I can show you all of the construction and elements of this shaker tag in full detail. It’s super easy and fun to create!

Mini “Faux” Shaker Window w/ Woodland Bears!

Today let’s create what I’m calling a Mini “Faux” Shaker Window Card. Although it looks like a standard shaker card, we will be gluing down the shaker elements so that only a few of the gems will actually move around. This is so that they give the look of a shaker, but they won’t actually interfere with the sentiment in the center of the window. I’ll show you exactly what I mean in today’s video!

To get started, we will die cut the panels for our card using the Ai Rectangle A2 Double Stitched Die Set (5063) and ink around the edges of the kraft panel and the snowflake panel. The white panel will be used to create our snowbanks. The pretty snowflake patterned paper is from the Ai Classic Christmas Paper Pack (5962) and it includes several beautiful double-sided Christmas papers!

Next, let’s use a label die from the Ai Portfolio Template Set (5957) to cut the opening from the snowflake panel. We can now stamp the sentiment onto this label which will say “Have a Beary Merry Christmas” which is just so cute! We will add some clear acetate behind the snowflake panel and then add some foam tape to create a pocket for the pretty Gold Dust shaker gems! But…we won’t just pour the gems into the opening… we will glue many of them in place and add a few extras that can move around. This will give the “faux” element to our shaker. And by using only one layer of foam tape, the elements will also be trapped in place so that there again won’t be a lot of movement.

Now we can stamp, color and die-cut all of our cute little images from the brand-new Ai Woodland Bears Set (5954). This set includes the adorable bear that we will be using today, as well as a wagon full of gift packages, stacks of gifts, a mailbox, sledding bears, little birds, a tree, star and snowflakes, and 3 coordinating sentiments! The dies are also included in this set!

The coloring will be done using the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens in the following colors: Blender, Sugared Almond Pink, Pale Rose, Dk Blossom Pink, Geranium Red, Deep Vermillion, Lt Blue, Persian Green, May Green, Deep Green, Olive Green, Mid Green, Beige, Lt Brown, Mid Brown, Lt Gray, Mid Gray.

Let’s go ahead and assemble the card and all of our cute little images to create a fun winter scene!

For a finishing touch, we can add a few of those same gems to the front of the card just to tie everything together!

Halloween Magic Easel Shaker Card!

Today we will be creating an adorable Halloween Easel Shaker Card! To do this we will be using the new Ai Mini Scalloped Frame Dies (5902). This wonderful die set includes the dies needed to create a cute little frame pocket for your stamped images or photos. The set includes three oval dies that will allow you to create the opening for your frame. There is also a fun easel die, a circle die, and a banner die for your sentiments!

However, we are going to add a little twist to this frame by creating a shaker element! I will show you exactly how to assemble this shaker pocket for your frame in today’s video.

For paper we will be using the Ai Halloween S2 Paper Pack (5849). This will give us some spooky spider webs for the outside of the frame and some cute little sentiments for the inside of the shaker element.

The focal image is going to be this adorable little witch holding her little black cat. This fun image comes from the Ai Halloween Magic Set (5037).

Let’s go ahead and stamp and color this image using the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens in the following colors: Blender, Flesh Colour, Blossom Pink, Lt Violet, Deep Violet, Lt Green, Deep Green, Orange, Scarlet Red, Deep Red, Sand, Brown, Lt Gray, and Warm Gray 6.

Now we can assemble the base of our frame and shaker by adding some Scary Fun sequins in green, purple and orange for lots and lots of sparkle!

Next, we can add a cute spider and web in the corner using the Ai Web Dies (5462). Let’s also add a sweet sentiment using the banner die from the frame set and a sentiment from the stamp set that included the witch.

Finally, let’s add some more sparkle using the Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Pen!

This fun easel design would be great for a teacher, co-worker, or friends desk! It is just so much fun to make and give!

So Sweet Armful of Cupcakes – Edge-to-Edge Shaker Card!

Today we will be using the brand-new Ai So Sweet Armfuls Stamp and Die Set (5904). This little set includes the cute elephant that we will be using today, as well as, a bear, heart, cupcake and a sentiment! When you die cut these little “Armful” images it will create a little slit above and below the arms so that they can hold the heart or cupcake or anything else you may want to place in their arms!

To get started let’s stamp, color and die cut all of the images. For the coloring we will be using the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens in the following colors: Blender, Sugared Almond Pink, Pink Flamingo, Lilac, Yellow, Bright Yellow, Scarlet Red, Lt Blue, Lt Green, Beige, Platinum Brown, Lt Gray.

Next, let’s create our beautiful balloon background using a fun balloon stencil from Lawn Fawn and some Distress Oxide Inks in Mustard Seed, Carved Pumpkin, and Festive Berries. Once all of the stenciling is done we can spatter this panel with those same three colors. We will also spatter the entire panel with some Wink of Stella Clear Glitter for a bit of sparkle!

To add the little strings to the balloons we will be using the Distress Ink in Hickory Smoke. Again, just trying to stay in that same color palette as the elephant that we previously colored.

Now we can cut a strip of vellum paper a bit longer that the width of the card and die cut it using a pretty scallop border die from the Journal Template Die Set (5543). Next, we will stamp and emboss the sentiment, which is included in this set, and emboss it with some detail white embossing powder. This will get wrapped around the panel so that none of the adhesive will show through the vellum paper. This is a great way hide the adhesive!

We can now create the pocket for our edge-to-edge design. I will show you exactly how to do this in today’s video. We will be adding some pretty sequins to the shaker pocket from Picket Fence Studios Sequin Mix.

Let’s go ahead and assemble the card and for a finishing touch we will add a few more sparkly gems to the front of the card!
