GLOSSY GLAZE – Stenciled Birthday Cards!

Today we will be creating a set of birthday cards using a brand new set of stamps from the Ai Watercolor Series. We will be using the slice of birthday cake image for our cards and this image is from the Ai Birthday Journal Set (5722). This small image will be simple and easy to color which is exactly what you want when you are creating multiple cards.

Let’s stamp this little slice of cake along with the sentiment. We will stamp all of these at the same time and create a little production line!

Next we can color in all three of the cakes using the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens in the following colors: Blender, Sugared Almond Pink, Lilac, Bright Yellow, Beige, Lt Gray, Gray.

Now we can do some stenciling using the Hero Arts Lacy Floral Stencil Square. This is just so pretty and delicate. But the show stopper will be the Cosmic Shimmer Glossy Glazes that we will be stenciling with today. These are a translucent glaze that dries so shiny and beautiful. Once this glaze is dry you can cut it with your paper trimmer or you can even die cut with it….just be sure the glaze is completely dry!

To frame up the image and sentiment we will be using the Ai Journal Rectangle Frames (5591). These little scalloped squares are going to frame everything nicely. These frames will be in a medium gray and we will use this same gray cardstock as a layer on the cards.

Let’s go ahead and assemble the cards and add a bit of Baker’s Twine in coordinating colors! For a finishing touch we can add some Pinkfresh Studio Ombre’ Glitter Drops in Twilight, Pixie Dust, and Sparkle & Shine!

Now you have a fun set of birthday cards to give as a gift or just to have ready to go when you need them!

Magical Rainbow Puppies Card!

Who doesn’t love puppies and rainbows! This card was inspired by the current Art Impressions Blog Challenge! The challenge is called “April Showers” and for this challenge we are looking for cards that include clouds, rain, rainbows, puddles, and umbrellas, etc.

Let’s get started by stamping and coloring our little puppies using the Ai WC Dog Set (4959). There are six sweet little pups in this set and we will be using all of them for this card. All of the coloring will be done using the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens in the following colors: Blender, Sugared Almond Pink, Mustard, Lt Gray, Lt Brow, Beige, Platinum Brown, Mid Brown.

To set the scene for our card we will be inking the sky background using some Tim Holtz Speckled Egg Distress Oxide Ink. Then we can give this a spatter using the Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Pen. This will give the sky a pretty sparkly effect!

Next we can create the grassy border using a grassy border die and ink this up using the Distress Inks in Twisted Citron and Mowed Lawn.

Now we can create our pretty rainbow using some polka dot pattern paper from the Lawn Fawn Stripes ‘n Sprinkles Petite Paper Pad. This will give us a fun pastel polka dot rainbow! To create the rainbow, sun, clouds and sentiment we will use the Sizzix Thinlits Rainbow Magic die set!

Let’s quickly color in the sun using the Distress Inks in Dried Marigold and Squeezed Lemonade. We can also die cut several of the suns and stack them up for some additional dimension.

For the sentiment we will be using some sparkly glitter paper and also stack up a few layers as we did with the sun.

Finally, we can assemble this card! I really hope this card inspires you to make a card for our fun Springtime challenge….we can’t wait to see what you create!

Distress Sprays vs Distress Ink Pads w/ Layering Stencils

Let’s have some fun with our Distress Sprays, Distress Ink Pads and Layering Stencils! We will be using the beautiful Layered Peony stencil from the Sizzix Layered Stencils Collection. This is a four part layering stencil. Please note that this is designed to be used with the Sizzix Stencil & Stamp Tool. You will notice that these 4 stencils have two holes punched at the top of the stencil….this is so that you can easily line up each layer of your stencils on the pegs of the stamping tool. This tool will ensure perfect alignment every time! However, you can easily use these stencils without the Sizzix Stencil & Stamp Tool and I will be showing you that today.

In order to ensure that no inks will leak underneath the stencils while we are using the Distress Sprays, we will be spraying them with the Pixie Spray. This will give the stencils a sticky back and allow the stencils to lay flat and adhere to the paper temporarily while we do the spraying.

Let’s create a beautiful pink peony background using the Distress Sprays in Spun Sugar, Kitsch Flamingo, Picked Raspberry and Festive Berries. You will want to heat set the colors after each layer of the stenciling. This background will have a beautiful watercolor effect!

For the second card we will be using the Distress Oxide Ink Pads in the same colors that we used in the sprays. This background will be a bit more detailed and crisp.

I wanted to give you a few different ways to use these layering stencils to get a completely different look! This will hopefully help you stretch your stencils for some interesting backgrounds.

We will add a beautiful silver metallic butterfly from the Tim Holtz Sizzix Thinlits Scribbly Butterflies Die Set. For paper we will use the Tim Holtz idea-ology Kraft-Stock – Metallic Classics.

Next we can create our sentiment label usng the Tim Holtz Sizzix Thinlits Vintage Labels Dies. These dies not only die cut the shape but also emboss a beautiful edge which adds lots of dimension and interest. The “Thinking of You” sentiment is from the Scrapbook.com Cards for Kindness Stamps – Handmade Essentials Set. We will emboss the sentiment using the Liquid Platinum embossing powder.

Let’s go ahead and create the 6″x6″ card base and add the silver layer and then the pink peony background for each of our cards..

Finally, we can add some sparkle with the pretty Pinkfresh Studio Ombre Glitter Drops in Twighlight!

Matchbook Tool Shed w/ Matching Envelope!

I’ve got a wonderful new matchbook to show you today! This is the Ai Matchbook Tool Shed which includes a little workbench, a couple of tool cabinets, lots of cute tools and a coordinating sentiment!

Just keep in mind that you will need the MB Template Dies (5317) to create the base of the card and you will need the MB Envelope Dies (5318) to create the coordinating envelope. I will talk more about these die sets in the video and I will give you all of the instructions for assembling the little matchbook and envelope!

These are so much fun to create and collect. There are LOTS AND LOTS of matchbook designs to choose from but this little tool shed set is brand new and just super fun!

Let’s stamp and color all of our images! All of the coloring today was done using the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens in the following colors: Blender, Yellow, Orange, Mustard, Lt Brown, Oatmeal, Aquamarine Blue, Lt Green, Turquoise Green, Lt Gray, Mid Gray.

For paper we will be using the Doodlebug Designs Pumpkin Spice 6″x6″ Paper Pad. This had some great plaids and patterns that will be perfect for this masculine card. I always like to pull out my paper pads from previous holidays and seasons and try and use them in a new way! So take a look through your stash and try to use up some of those wonderful little scraps and leftovers!

Tim Holtz Mixed Media – Blossom Vignette Box

I’ve got a really special mixed media project to show you today using the most beautiful floral die set from Tim Holtz called the Sizzix Thinlits Blossom Die! This very large floral and leaves set is going to be just perfect for our vignette box project! I’ll show you how to color and layer this flower and leaf for extra dimension.

I thought it would be fun to do the coloring using the Tim Holtz Distress Crayons in a variety of pinks and purples. I’ll give you a little tip for being able to easily color with these crayons! We will also be using the crayons to add color to some of the metal embellishments!

The box will be the base of this project and is from the Tim Holtz idea-ology – Vignetter Boxes – Squares set.

We will be using a ton of Tim Holtz products today including the quote chips, droplets, ribbons and bows, word tags, velvet trim, vintage flair, odds and ends, and butterflies! By adding all of these unique items we can give our project lots of interest and dimension. This is a great time to dig through your own personal stash of embellishments to se what you may already have to add to your project!

Let’s also grab some beautiful paper from the Tim Holtz Abandoned Paper Pad. This will have some of the pinks and purples that we need to make this flower pop!

For a bit of a metallic look on various pieces of this design as well as the box itself, we will be using the Tim Holtz Distress Foundry Wax in Sterling. I’ll talk about this product in some additional detail in the video, since there are a few important things you should know about this very special and unique product!

In this video I will show you lots of fun techniques and ideas for adding interest to your mixed media projects! So let’s go ahead and get started!!!

SLIDER CARD – Bunny Front & Back!

Let’s create super fun SLIDER CARD using the Ai Bunny Front and Back (5732)! This little set includes both the front and back of the bunny which will be perfect for creating our slider card. This will allow the bunny to be seen from the outside and inside of the card…..which is super cute!!!

To get started I will show you how to easily cut the cardstock to create the card base. Once this is done we can create the background for our card. To create the grassy border we will mask off the bottom portion of the card and use the Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Inks in Twisted Citron and Mowed Lawn.

To create the clouds in the sky we will be using a two part cloud stencil from the Lawn Fawn Collection. Again be sure to mask off the bottom of the card. We will ink the stencil using the Versamark Ink Pad and then we will add some white embossing powder to give the clouds some texture and dimension. This will also allow us to ink over the top of the clouds with some Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Ink in Salvaged Patina. Once we have completed the inking we can wipe off any excess ink on top of the clouds with a paper towel.

Next we can stamp and color all of our images using the the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens in the following colors: Blender, Sugared Almond Pink, Peach Pink, Lemon Yellow, Yellow, Bright Yellow, Orange, English Lavender, Purple, Lt Green, Aquamarine Blue, Turquoise Green, Lt Brown, Lt Gray, Cool Gray #3. The images we are using are from the Ai Bunny Front and Back (5732), Ai Bunny & Chicks Set (5737), and the Ai Easter Egg House Set (5738).

In the video I will give you all of the details and instructions on cutting and assembling the slider mechanism for this card. It’s very simple and easy to do!

We will stamp “Hippity Hoppity” on the front of the card and “Just hopping by to wish you joy this Easter day” on the inside of the card. These cute sentiments are from the Ai Easter Sentiments Set (5733). There a loads of fun Easter sentiments in this stamp set!

Finally, we can assemble our card and have fun watching that sweet little bunny slide back and forth…so much fun!!!
