Today I am going shopping through the stash in my craft room for some much-loved Tim Holtz dies, embellishments, papers, quote chips, design tape, charms and so much more! If you are like me, you have been hoarding these cherished supplies for quite some time! Well, today is the day that we are going to pull out some of our favorite stuff and play!
I absolutely love the TH Sizzix Thinlits Tailored Die Set that we will be focusing on today! This set has the three hats that we will be using as our focal images. We will be layering up these hats using the TH idea-ology Backdrops – Volume #5 papers. This will give us a nice variety of earthy tones for each of the hats and give us some nice shading and shadowing colors.
Next, we can create the background for our card using some mustard-colored paper from the TH idea-ology Kraft-stock – Warm colors paper pack. We will be adding some texture to this using the TH 3D Texture Fades – Quilted embossing folder. We will also add more interest to this panel by sanding off some of the color from the high spots and adding some Ground Espresso ink around the edges. We will also tear some sections for a more vintage look and add ink to those as well!
This panel will be attached to another piece of patterned paper and added to our Kraft card base.
Next is the hard part (for some of us) … letting go and using some of our cherished TH stash! I’m going to grab some metal stars, design tape, chipboard quotes and embellishments, and a fun little charm. You grab what you have in your stash!
Once we lay out all of these items onto the front of the card, we will add a bit of sparkle using the brand-new TH Distress Spritz’s in Walnut Stain and Barn Door. This will just bring everything together!
Finally, if you like, you can add some highlights with a white gel pen.
Now you have a wonderful mixed media card with tons of interest and texture that anyone would love to receive … and hopefully feel better about reaching into that cherished stash more often … lol!

Hi Lynn – it’s Lynn :)…….LOL……….I’ve enjoyed watching several of your tutorials and I’m fascinated by some of your techniques although I haven’t ventured to try any. Somebody on the AI Way Facebook group was asking about painting with copic markers and I referred her to your website where you use ZIG markers. I remember you did one of Windows of the World – I think it was a sailboat and it was just beautiful. The colors were so vibrant and that piqued my interest in the markers. I couldn’t find it on your website but maybe you remember which one it was? Thanks so much and thank you for your inspirations – you are awesome!!!

Just briefly I’d like to say that the Zigs are a water based marker that can be blended with water or the Zig Blender Pen. I prefer the blender….it’s just easier to control the blending process. The copics are an alcohol based permanent marker. The blending is primarily done by using a blending of marker colors in the same palette. However there is a colorless blender that can also be used for additional blending. The Zigs are much less expensive than the alcohol markers.
