Coloring Die Cuts w/ Distress Oxide Inks

Let’s create a fun summer seashell card today using the wonderful new Lawn Fawn Stitched Seashell Die Set! This set includes 4 beautiful shell designs as well as some seagrass and little faces that you can cut into the shells for added cuteness!

To get started, let’s create some background papers from which we will die cut the seashells. To do this, we will be using the Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Sprays. I used two colors for each of the shells, but you can use as many as you would like. I will show you a few different techniques for using these sprays in today’s video. These sprays will give the shells a pretty watercolor look and are so simple and easy to do!

Once all of the papers have been sprayed and are dry, we can die cut the seashells. You will see the beautiful, detailed stitching that is created when these are die cut. For some additional dimension and interest, we will use a tiny blending brush and add some Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Ink in Antique Linen around the edges of the shells and seagrass.

For the background, let’s create the look of sand for the shells to lay on. To do this, we will die cut the largest die from the Lawn Fawn Outside In Stitched Rectangle Stackables Dies and apply some Tim Holtz Distress “Gathered Twigs” Oxide Ink using a blending brush.

Next, we can add a spattering of the Tim Holtz Distress Spritz in Vintage Photo, which will and some shimmer to the sand. We will spatter this panel again, as well as the die cut shells with some Dr. Ph. Martin’s Bleed Proof White Ink.

Now we can add the shells to the sandy background using some foam squares. The hardest part was deciding the best layout for the shells! Any extra shells will be used on the inside of the card and remember to save one for the envelope as well.

Now we can attach this panel with the shells to the white card base and add our sentiments. For the sentiment banners we will use the Lawn Fawn Pull n’ Slide Dies. The sentiments will come from the Lawn Fawn Shello Friend Stamp Set. The card front will say, “You’re very spe-shell” and the inside “to me”.

Let’s also add some shells and seagrass to the inside of the card, next to the sentiment. This will finish off the card nicely!
