Sizzix “You are so cool” Card (using the Crazy Characters #2 Set)

I’ve got a super fun summer card to show you today! This sweet Popsicle card will be created using the Sizzix Thinlits w/ Stamps – Crazy Characters #2 Set. This cute set includes the popsicle, a volcano, and a beautiful sun!

Let’s start by inking up some cardstock for our Popsicle colors using the Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Ink Pads in Shaded Lilac, Salvaged Patina, Squeezed Lemonade, Kitsch Flamingo. For the Popsicle stick we will be using Antique Linen.

What makes this die set so easy to use is that it cuts out the base of the Popsicle as well as the layers and sprinkles (aka shots!).

We will die cut the layers from all of the pretty pastel papers that we colored and then mix and match them for the little Popsicles. If you want to create the look of a little bite being taken from one of the Popsicles you can go ahead and do this now using a scalloped circle die from the Sizzix Framelits w/ Stamps – Circle Sentiments Set.

Next we can add the sprinkles and then add some clear glaze over the top to give them the look of being frozen. While the glaze is still wet we can add a bit of glitter for some added interest!

For the base of the card we will die cut two stitched panels from the Lawn Fawn Slimline Stackables Dies. The largest one will get colored using the same 4 pastel colors we used previously and then with the smaller panel we will emboss this using the Sizzix 3-D Textured Impresssions – Tropical Leaves embossing folder.

On this embossed panel we will be adding some baker’s twine in those same pastel colors and tying a knot on the front of the panel.

For the larger panel we can add a sentiment from this same stamp set that says “You are so” and next we can die cut the work “cool” from the Sizzix Thinlits – Essential Type alphabet set. We can add some of that same glaze to the letters to give them the same glossy shine as the Popsicles!

Let’s assemble our fun summery card! This card can be used for so many occasions including birthday, hello, and thinking of you cards!

Masking An Easy Background using the Ai Scenic Foundations (PART 1 OF 3)

I am starting a three part series using the wonderful Ai Scenic Foundations stamp sets….but we are going to be doing them in a completely different way! I want to show you how to change up the way that you use your images or the way the were intended to be used! Also, if you are a bit intimidated by the watercolor stamping techniques this three part series will give you some fun alternatives!

Today, in Part 1, we will be using the SF Beach Cabin Set (5749) to create a beautiful background using some simple masking techniques and the Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Inks. This is a simple and easy way to set the scene for our Scenic Foundations stamps.

In Part 2, we will be creating a mixed media tag card using the SF Village Set (5746) and a water coloring technique using the Tim Holtz Mini Ink Pads.

And in Part 3, we will be creating a set of note cards by stenciling a pretty sunburst background with a vellum overlay by using the remaining four sets from the Summer of 2023 release!

Let’s first stamp the image onto some Strathmore Bristol Smooth Cardstock in a light gray ink. This light inking will allow us to determine where to place our masking tape and where to apply ink for the sky, beach and water. Next we can mask off sections of the card panel and ink one section at a time.

Now we can stamp the images onto some pretty patterned paper from the Ai Easter Paper Pack to create our cabin, beach umbrella, hat and sailboats! We will do some fussy cutting and then we can attach these to some white cardstock.

Once these items are assembled, we can attach the items onto the background using the original stamping to line up the images.

Now we can take the pretty scallop die from the Ai Journal Template Die Set (5543) and die cut the scene and a white scallop panel as well. We can glue these two together by offsetting them a bit to create a white edge on the top and left side.

Next we can use the Sizzix 3-D Embossing Folder – Tropical Leaves to add some dimension to the card panel. Let’s also ink this up with the Tim Holtz Peacock Feathers ink. This will highlight the details of the embossing!

We can now wrap some pretty violet/white twine around the card panel and tie a bow!

Let’s assemble the card and add a few pretty gems to tie everything together!

Pretty As A Picture! (Creating A Polaroid Style Card)

Today’s card was inspired by the current Art Impressions Blog Challenge called “V is for Vacation”. This challenge is to create any summer related card or project which can include beaches, travel, picnics or anything else that makes you think of summer!

I thought it would be fun to create this “pretty as a picture” card with a beach theme since my absolute happy place is the beach. Although, I have to admit that I love the beach anytime of the year! It is especially pretty after the first snowfall of the winter season! But let’s not think about winter yet!!!

I would like to start by saying that I know that Nina, who is a fellow Design Team Member, is currently doing a beautiful series using this Polaroid theme and I did not know that at the time I created this card and video. Sometimes this can happen….so I really recommend that you check out what she has been doing….she is amazing and I know you will love her new series! Hopefully this card will just add to the fun and inspiration!

Our focal image will be from the Ai Sailboat Window Set (5448). This is a beautiful summer scene!

For the coloring today we will be using the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens in the following colors: Blender, Sugared Almond Pink, Peach Pink, Lt Violet, Yellow, Haze Blue, Lt Blue, Cobalt Blue, Turquoise Green, May Green, Green, Lt Gray, Green Gray, Beige, Mid Brown. Once the coloring is complete we can cut and assemble our little polaroid.

Now let’s create the pretty background using the sea shells from the Ai Gull-Friends Set (5399). We will be stamping a variety of shells using the Staz-on Snowflake Ink Pad onto some Scrapbook.com Warms Smooth Cardstock.

Next we can add some sparkle and shine using the Wink of Stella Glitter Pen. To do this we will place some of the ink onto our glass media mat and spritz it with a bit of water and use a small paint brush to spatter the entire panel. You really have to see this in person to see how beautiful it looks! We will also spatter this same panel with the Bleed Proof White Ink for added interest.

We can add a nice mauve colored velvet ribbon using the Tim Holtz Velvet Trims. After we add the ribbon we can pop-up this panel onto our card base. This card base is created using the Scrapbook.com Warms Smooth Cardstock.

Let’s add the “Seas the Day” sentiment using that same Ai Gull-Friends Set (5399).

Finally, we can add some pretty pink sequins from the Picket Fence Studios “all about the pinks” Sequin Mix.

This card design is so easy and fun and can be used with any of your Ai Shadowbox Window Stamp Sets….and there are so many of these to chose from…it will be difficult to decide which ones to use!

Tim Holtz Road Trip … w/ Mountain Scene Layering Stencil!

I’m so excited to be showing a couple of great products! We will be using the Tim Holtz Sizzix Thinlits Road Trip Colorize die set today! This set is absolutely fantastic and includes the dies needed to create this fun car and some clouds, trees and a cute little sign! If you haven’t used these colorize dies yet you will see how easy it is to do….and it is so much fun!

And I’m equally as excited to show you this amazing 4-part Layering Mountain Scene Stencil from The Crafter’s Workshop! I’ll give you a few tips for stenciling this in today’s video. This stencil is so versatile and could be used with so many of our stamp sets.

To do all of the coloring today we will be using several of the TH Distress Oxide Ink Pads! We will quickly spatter the background of the scene using the Dr Ph Martin’s Bleed Proof White Ink. This will just bring everything together.

We will be creating a woodgrain frame for the scene using the Th Distress Woodgrain Cardstock. I’ll show you some tips for coloring this cardstock and creating a realistic woodgrain look! And for the road at the bottom of the card we will be using the TH 3-D Texture Fades Embossing Folder – Cobblestone #2. This will add lots of texture and dimension! We can a bit of ink to this panel for a more realistic look!

Now we can die cut all of the pieces needed to create the car and sign. I’ll show you how to easily assemble these in the video.

Finally we can wrap some twine around the bottom of the card and add a little charm from the TH idea-ology – Word Tags. Let’s also add a metal star to the sign which is from the TH idea-ology Adornments – Stars and also add the “good life” sentiment to the sign using the TH idea-ology Remnant Rubs – Tiny Text.

Shaker Card w/ Cozy Cat Cubbies!

I’ve got a super fun shaker card to show you today! We will be using the adorable Ai Cozy Cat Cubbies Set (5098). This set has a fun cat tree/condo scratching post and several little cats, a ball of yarn, and several coordinating sentiments!

To get started let’s grab some pretty blue patterned paper and die cut the front panel for the shaker card. We will be using the Ai Rectangle A2 Double Stitched Dies (5063) and Ai Oval Double Stitched Dies (5065). This will give us a pretty stitched border around the rectangle and the oval.

Next we can stamp and color all of the images using the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens in the following colors: Blender, Sugared Almond Pink, Pale Rose, Haze Blue, Smoky Olive, Plum Gray, Mustard, Lt Brown, Beige, Sand, Lt Gray, Platinum Brown, Cool Gray 6, Mid Brown, Smoky Teal. (Note: Stamp plenty of balls of yarn and color them in a variety of colors!)

Since this set does include all of the coordinating dies so we can go ahead and die cut everything!

Let’s assemble the shaker element for the card and add some chunky glitter and a bunch of the little balls of yarn! I’ll give you some tips and tricks for assembling the shaker element of the card in today’s video!

Next, we can stamp the sentiment for the card using the same set and it says “sending warm fuzzy felines”! We can die cut a small banner for the sentiment using the Ai Journal Template Die Set (5543). Let’s pop this up for a bit of added dimension!

Finally, we can add a few pretty light blue heart gems!

This is just so cute and fun when you shake those little balls of yarn and that pretty glitter!

Birdhouse Cubbies Slimline Card – Adding Dimension without Pop-Dots, Gems or Bows!!!

Today’s was inspired by the current Ai Blog Challenge and that was to create a birthday card to celebrate Bonnie’s birthday! Please feel free to join us in this blog challenge by posting your card or project that has a birthday theme….any birthday theme will do! I’m sure Bonnie would love to see what you create to celebrate her special day!

Today we will be creating a fun slimline card using the Ai Birdhouse Cubbies Set (5346). This adorable set includes a beautiful birdhouse, birds, flowers, a vine and several fun sentiments! An added bonus is that this set does include the dies! You will love how the birdhouse die cuts out the window openings and the doors on the birdhouse which make this image very interactive!

For this card I decided to add an additional challenge for myself which was to create a one layer card that would have lots and lots of texture, dimension and interest without adding any ribbons, bows, gems or pop-dots! I will give you some tips and tricks for doing this in today’s video.

Let’s get started by stamping and coloring all of our images using the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens in the following colors: Blender, Sugared Almond Pink, Pale Orange, Yellow, Orange, Scarlet Red, Mid Green, Dark Green, Aquamarine Blue, Smoky Teal, Beige, Gray Brown, Mid Brown, Lt Gray. Once the coloring is complete we can die cut all of the images.

Next let’s create a frame for the decorated card panel to sit inside by using the Ai Slimline Dies Set (5463). To set the scene for this card panel we will add some Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Ink in Speckled Egg and then we will spatter the panel with the same ink and also some teal colored metallic watercolor paint!

Going back to the same stamp set we will stamp our cute sentiment on the front of the card and this says “A little birdie told me it was your birthday”. This set has several cute coordinating sentiments!

Let’s cut off the post on the birdhouse so that it looks like it is hanging from a tree branch. We will use a black permanent marker to create the ribbon for the birdhouse and then draw on a cute little bow. Now we can add all of our little birds, flowers and vines….again gluing everything flat….but you could certainly pop some items up if you wish!

So hopefully you can see how easy it is to add lots of interest and dimension to your cards by using a variety of fun and creative techniques!

Birthday Blessings Card w/ Stenciled Background

Today we will be using one of the wonderful FREEBIE stamps which can be obtained for free with a $30 purchase from Art Impressions. There a several FREEBIE’S available including the Robin that we will be using today, as well as, a Chickadee, the Stellar Jay, a Cockatiel, a sweet Puffin, and a pretty Hummingbird!

To get started we will be using the Ai Rectangle A2 Double Stitched Dies and the Ai Oval Double Stitched Dies to die cut the rectangular panel for the front of the card and to die cut an oval from the center.

To set the scene, we can use a beautiful leave stencil to create a background. We will ink this up using a small 1/4″ blending brush so that we can add some shadows to the leaves. This will give our stenciling a lot more dimension and interest!

Now we can select some pretty yellow/gold paper from the Echo Park paper pack for the opening in the oval. We will ink this up around the edges of the oval using a coordinating ink.

Let’s stamp our little robin and color it in using the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens in the following colors: Blender, Yellow, Orange, Lt Gray, Platinum Brown.

We can use our detail scissors to cut this out, leaving a little white border all the way around.

Next, we can die cut a lattice border (Ai Pocket Set) and some leaves/sprigs (Ai Journal Rectangle Frames), and a pretty flower (Ai Journal Oval Frames).

We can give the leaves and flowers a bit of dimension using our sculpting tools.

Before we complete the assembly we can add a few sentiments from the Ai Birthday Sentiments Set. This will say “Birthday Blessings” and “May your every wish come true!”.

Let’s assemble the card and add a few iridescent stars to the oval area and a pretty gem to the center of the flower!

PEEK-A-BOO POP-UP – Perfectly Pawsome!

Today we are going to have some fun creating a Peek-a-boo Pop-up Card! These cards are so easy and fun to make! I’ll give you all of the instructions and some tips to make this fun and interactive card!

For our images today we will be using the wonderful Ai Feline Set (5369). We will be using the large grouping of cute cats and the little cat that looks like he/she is laying on it’s back….but we are going to use it as our jumping cat!

Let’s start by stamping the images and coloring them using the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens in the following colors: Blender, Sugared Almond Pink, Lt Gray, Platinum Brown, Mustard, Oatmeal, Beige, Sand, Mid Brown.

Now we can prep the card base for our pop-up using the Lawn Fawn Peek-a-boo Pop-up Dies. This set contains all of the dies you will need to create this super fun card! So let’s go ahead and die cut all of the pieces using some Strathmore Bristol Smooth 100lb cardstock and we will color this in using the Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Inks.

Once the backgrounds are colored we can add a bit of color to the bottoms of each of the clouds and some Wink of Stella clear glitter for some added sparkle!

For the sentiments we will be using the same Ai Feline Set (5369) as well as the Ai MB Cats (5730). So this card will say “Hope your birthday’s…purrfectly pawsome!”. We will die cut the sentiments using the banner die from the Ai Tag Stitched Dies (5132).

Now we can assemble this peek-a-boo pop-up and watch our little cat jump around…so much fun!!!

EMBOSS IT! Combining wet and dry embossing!

I’m so happy to be showing you a fun tag card which I created to kick off Ai’s brand new blog challenge which is called “Emboss like a BOSS!”. Any embossing will do…including both wet and dry techniques! We will be using both today!

For today’s feature card we will be using the adorable Ai Baby Critters Set (5400) which includes several fun birthday critters along with several coordinating sentiments. We will be using many of these sentiments for this card!

Let’s get started by stamping and coloring in all of our images using the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens in the following colors: Blender, Sugared Almond Pink, Pale Orange, Purple, Yellow, Bright Yellow, Persian Green, Lt Gray, Mid Gray, Beige, Mid Brown.

We’ll also add some details to the balloons and little elephant using a white gel pen. This is a great way to personalized your images!

Next we will die cut a fun stitched tag from the Ai Tag Stitched Die Set (5132) using some Strathmore Bristol Smooth 100lb Cardstock. We will stamp and emboss several sentiments from this set using clear ink and white embossing powder. This will act as a resist for the layer of Distress Oxide Ink (Speckled Egg) that we will be applying over the top of these sentiments. Just be sure to grab a paper towel and wipe off any excess ink that is sitting on top of the sentiments because it will not dry and could rub off!

We will add a bit of a floral border at the bottom of the tag using the Ai Easter Journal Paper Pack (5742). This patterned paper will coordinate well with the coloring we have already done.

Next let’s add a bit of baker’s twine and a bow to the top of the tag!

Now we can add some texture and dimension to our card using a 3D Geometric Flowers Embossing Folder. We will keep this background in plain white so that the tag remains our focal point!

Finally, we can assemble the card and add a bit of sparkle with some pretty teal colored opalescent sequins!

It’s really fun to combine the wet and dry embossing techniques for adding lots and lots of dimension and texture to your cards!

Front Porch Garden Card!

Today we are going to be using another wonderful Front Porch Series stamp set! This is the Ai Front Porch Garden Set (5486) and has so many beautiful images including a few potted plants, floral wreath, topiary, floral vine and even a cute little pair of rain boots! Please note that you will need the Ai Front Porch Set (5512) to create the basic front porch and door. I’ll talk a bit more about that in the video and give you a closer look at that set!

Let’s get started by stamping and coloring all of these sweet little images using the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens as follows: Blender, Sugared Almond Pink, Peach Pink, Pale Orange, Orange, Scarlet Red, Yellow, Lt Violet, Lt Green, Deep Green, Mid Green, Moss Green, Mid Gray, Lt Gray, Beige, Lt Brown, Sand, Mid Brown, Smoky Teal.

Since this set includes the coordinating dies we can go ahead and die cut all of these little pieces!

To set the scene for our front porch we will use a 3D Deck Planks Embossing Folder and then we will add a bit of gray in-between the wood slats for a bit more interest and dimension. We will also cut a strip of paper for the bottom of the card and use a blending brush to add some Tim Holtz Twisted Citron Oxide Ink and Rustic Wilderness and give this panel a little spatter for some added interest!

I’m creating a card to celebrate a new home….so I have selected the “Home Sweet Home” sentiment from the Ai Front Porch Set. However, keep in mind that this card could be used for many different occasions! This was stamped onto a pretty die cut label using the die from the Ai Journal Template Die Set (5543). Once we die cut the label we can do a bit of blending using that same Tim Holtz Twisted Citron Oxide Ink and then we can add some stitched lines using a permanent black pen!

Let’s assemble the card with glue and foam squares for added dimension!
