Easy Paper Piecing & Partial Die-Cutting Card!

Today we will be creating a pretty flap card using a few simple techniques, including some easy paper piecing and some simple partial die-cutting. This will be a fun card especially for those of you who don’t love coloring!

We will begin by creating the card base, which will be a top folding A2 size card. Next, we will partially die cut the bottom of a scalloped heart. The heart die is from the Ai Nested Heart Dies (5721) Set. I will show you exactly how to do this in today’s video! Once we have die-cut the bottom of the scalloped heart we will need to use our paper trimmer to cut away the excess cardstock from both sides of the card. This will create the look of a flap!

Now we can die cut another scalloped heart in Raspberry cardstock. Let’s also grab the next largest heart die from this set and die cut this from some Ballet Slipper and white cardstock.

We can layer the raspberry and ballet slipper hearts together and now we will stamp the teacup from the Ai Tea Time Set (6024). Let’s stamp this 3X so that we can do some simple paper piecing. For all of the pattern papers on this card, we will be using the Ai Valentine’s Paper Pack (5741). Again, I will show you how to do this simple technique in the video!

Now that the teacup is done, we can pop it up onto the two hearts that have been glued together. We can now tie some Dusty Rose Twine around the bottom of the heart and tie a bow. Let’s also add some pretty dots around the two hearts using a white gel pen.

Now we will cut the layers for the inside and outside of the card. I selected a nice gingham plaid for the inside and a pretty coordinating floral for the outside. Let’s also quickly stamp a sentiment onto the card front. I am creating a thank you card …. but this design would be perfect for Valentine’s Day, Anniversary, or even a friendship card!

Now we can finish assembling the card, making sure to line the scalloped heart up with the partially die cut scalloped heart on the card front.

I added the extra white heart to the inside of the card. I left mine blank, but you could certainly add another sentiment here or write a sweet note!

For a finishing touch, we can add some pretty pink sequins for a bit of sparkle!

Using Banner Dies to Create a Unique Background!

Let’s use our banner/flag dies to create a unique and easy background for our card! We will use the Ai Flag Double Stitched Dies (5133) to create the little banners in two different sizes. For papers, we will be using the Ai Easter Bunny Paper Pack (6036) which has lots of florals, dots, stripes and plaids and will give us a nice variety of patterns and colors for this background. This is also a great way to use up all of your little paper scraps in a fun, new way!

This card was inspired by the current Ai “Blossoms and Blooms” Blog Challenge which is to create card or project that includes floral stamps, papers, embellishments, or anything else floral that you might like!

Once we have die cut the banners from a variety of papers, we can then cut a piece of white cardstock at 5 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ and start adding the banners. To line up the banners, I found it easiest to mark the center of each side of the white cardstock with a pencil (on all four sides) and then line up the larger floral banners by centering the “V” shape of the banner with that center pencil mark. Next, we can add the smaller banners to fill in between the larger ones. I will show you this easy way to line up these banners in today’s video.

Next, we will cut the circles for the center of the card using the Ai Circle Double Stitched Dies (5064). This will give us that nice, stitched border which will coordinate nicely with the banner/flag dies.

Now we can stamp the teacup and spoon from some pattern papers. I’ll show you how to cut and layer these in the video.

Let’s stamp the “BEAU-TEA-FUL!” sentiment using the Ai Valentine Bears Set (5005) and center it on the top portion of the white circle.

Now we can layer up the card and attach the teacup and spoon and pop-up the circles with some dimensional 3D foam squares. For a bit of sparkle let’s add some pretty clear, iridescent drops around the card. These are perfect because they won’t add any color but will tie everything together nicely!

For a finishing touch, we can add a pretty mint green rose from the Tim Holtz idea-ology Heirloom Florals collection!

Tea Time Pocket Card for Mother’s Day!

Today’s card was inspired by the current Ai “Show Mom She’s Special” Blog Challenge. Of course, if you change out the sentiments this card would be great for any occasion with all of its beautiful floral papers and cute little pocket tag! This tag could be removed by the recipient for a fun little bookmark as well!

Let’s begin by stamping the stack of teacups and spoon using the brand-new Ai Tea Time Set (6024). For all of the coloring we will be using the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens in the following colors: Blender, Pale Yellow, Yellow, Shadow Pink, Pale Rose, Sea Green.

Next, we will use the Ai Portfolio Template Die Set (5952) to die cut the tag and pocket. The beautiful pattern papers are from the Ai Easter Bunny Paper Pack (6036). These 6″x6″ double-sided paper packs are perfect for your layered cards since all of the papers coordinate so nicely!

Let’s also die cut the layers for the card using the two largest dies from the Ai Rectangle A2 Double Stitched Dies (5063). We can layer these onto a standard A2 size card base.

Now, we can add a pretty plaid scalloped rectangle panel onto the card and then let’s add the pocket onto to the card using some strong double-sided tape to attach this securely to the card. To this pocket we can add a strip of floral paper and the little spoon!

Let’s add some Mother’s Day sentiments from this same stamp set but again this card would be great for any occasion if you change out the sentiments for a special birthday, friendship, thinking of you, or thank you card!

For the tag, we will add some hemp twine in Dusty Rose and tie a pretty bow!

Again, using that same paper pack we will fussy cut some flowers and attach those to the cards, gluing some flat and popping up a few others.

As a finishing touch, we will scatter some pretty sparkly white gems around the card for added interest and fun!
