Tim Holtz Distress Spritz – Mixed Media Tags!

Let’s have some fun and do some experimenting with the brand-new Tim Holtz Distress Spritz. This wonderful new product comes in 12 different colors! I really hope that there are more to come in the future because they are so much fun to play with and add so much shimmer and interest to your projects.

To get started in today’s video I will quickly show you the differences between the Distress Spritz, the Distress Oxide Sprays, and the Distress Mica Sprays. The Distress Spritz is a Pearlized Pigment in a clear liquid and it is sheer perfection!

There will be a storage tin available this Fall…so keep an eye out for that! Also, there will be some replacement spray nozzles coming soon. However, if you shake the spritz thoroughly before each use and carefully clean your nozzles after each use, you should not have to worry about that too much.

Next, let’s create two different mixed media tags using several products from the Tim Holtz collections. We will of course use these new Distress Spritz’s. We will also use the TH idea-ology Snapshots, Velvet Trims, Quote Chips, Entomology, Vellum Scenes and so much more!

For our papers today, let’s also use the TH Distress Tags, Kraft-stock, Kraft Heavy-stock and Woodgrain Two-tone Black Cardstock. Wait until you see how the Distress Spritz looks on the black cardstock…it is so beautiful and really pops!

I even tested the Distress Spritz on some Mica Flakes….and it worked…and you are going to love how it looks!

We will also add texture and interest with the TH Distress Glaze and add color to the little bee using the TH Distress Crayons!

There are so many layers and elements to these tags that I’m just going to have you jump into the video and I’ll give you the step-by-step instructions so that you can create some fun tags of your own!

Tim Holtz Papercut Cafe Card w/ Acrylic Block Stamping!

Today we will be creating a fun background for our card using a round acrylic stamping block! This is so much fun and so easy to do! With this technique you’ll be able to create lots of backgrounds in a very short period of time!

We will be inking up the round acrylic block with the Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Inks in Scattered Straw, Dried Marigold, Wild Honey, and Ripe Persimmon. Now we can spritz the ink with a bit of water and then press onto the cardstock. I like to let it sit for a second or two…this allows the ink to make a nice transfer. I will talk about this a bit more…and show you some tips and techniques in the video!

Now for a bit more interest, let’s do some stenciling using the Stamperia Create Happiness Stencil using the Gathered Twigs ink. To bring everything together we can spatter this background using some white ink and then the Gathered Twigs ink again!

We can also add this same ink around the edges of this panel using a blending brush. Now we can die cut a panel from this background using the Tim Holtz Sizzix Thinlits Vintage Label dies. We will die cut this label and ink around the edges and then place it back onto the card by popping it up with some foam tape. This will highlight our coffee cup a bit more!

Let’s go ahead and die cut the coffee cup and all of its layers using the Tim Holtz Sizzix Thinlits Papercut Cafe’ dies. For the layering papers we will be using the Scrapbook.com Smooth Cardstock Paper Pad in the Warms. In the video I will show you how these dies are labeled and how easily you can die cut and assemble the pieces of the cup and steam.

Let’s start layering the card with a pretty floral panel from the Tim Holtz idea-ology Backdrops Volume #1 Paper Pad and we can add a coordinating velvet ribbon from the Tim Holtz idea-ology Velvet Trims Warms collection.

Finally, we can add a few gems using the Tim Holtz Halloween Droplets!

Distress Sprays vs Distress Ink Pads w/ Layering Stencils

Let’s have some fun with our Distress Sprays, Distress Ink Pads and Layering Stencils! We will be using the beautiful Layered Peony stencil from the Sizzix Layered Stencils Collection. This is a four part layering stencil. Please note that this is designed to be used with the Sizzix Stencil & Stamp Tool. You will notice that these 4 stencils have two holes punched at the top of the stencil….this is so that you can easily line up each layer of your stencils on the pegs of the stamping tool. This tool will ensure perfect alignment every time! However, you can easily use these stencils without the Sizzix Stencil & Stamp Tool and I will be showing you that today.

In order to ensure that no inks will leak underneath the stencils while we are using the Distress Sprays, we will be spraying them with the Pixie Spray. This will give the stencils a sticky back and allow the stencils to lay flat and adhere to the paper temporarily while we do the spraying.

Let’s create a beautiful pink peony background using the Distress Sprays in Spun Sugar, Kitsch Flamingo, Picked Raspberry and Festive Berries. You will want to heat set the colors after each layer of the stenciling. This background will have a beautiful watercolor effect!

For the second card we will be using the Distress Oxide Ink Pads in the same colors that we used in the sprays. This background will be a bit more detailed and crisp.

I wanted to give you a few different ways to use these layering stencils to get a completely different look! This will hopefully help you stretch your stencils for some interesting backgrounds.

We will add a beautiful silver metallic butterfly from the Tim Holtz Sizzix Thinlits Scribbly Butterflies Die Set. For paper we will use the Tim Holtz idea-ology Kraft-Stock – Metallic Classics.

Next we can create our sentiment label usng the Tim Holtz Sizzix Thinlits Vintage Labels Dies. These dies not only die cut the shape but also emboss a beautiful edge which adds lots of dimension and interest. The “Thinking of You” sentiment is from the Scrapbook.com Cards for Kindness Stamps – Handmade Essentials Set. We will emboss the sentiment using the Liquid Platinum embossing powder.

Let’s go ahead and create the 6″x6″ card base and add the silver layer and then the pink peony background for each of our cards..

Finally, we can add some sparkle with the pretty Pinkfresh Studio Ombre Glitter Drops in Twighlight!
