Mini “Faux” Shaker Window w/ Woodland Bears!

Today let’s create what I’m calling a Mini “Faux” Shaker Window Card. Although it looks like a standard shaker card, we will be gluing down the shaker elements so that only a few of the gems will actually move around. This is so that they give the look of a shaker, but they won’t actually interfere with the sentiment in the center of the window. I’ll show you exactly what I mean in today’s video!

To get started, we will die cut the panels for our card using the Ai Rectangle A2 Double Stitched Die Set (5063) and ink around the edges of the kraft panel and the snowflake panel. The white panel will be used to create our snowbanks. The pretty snowflake patterned paper is from the Ai Classic Christmas Paper Pack (5962) and it includes several beautiful double-sided Christmas papers!

Next, let’s use a label die from the Ai Portfolio Template Set (5957) to cut the opening from the snowflake panel. We can now stamp the sentiment onto this label which will say “Have a Beary Merry Christmas” which is just so cute! We will add some clear acetate behind the snowflake panel and then add some foam tape to create a pocket for the pretty Gold Dust shaker gems! But…we won’t just pour the gems into the opening… we will glue many of them in place and add a few extras that can move around. This will give the “faux” element to our shaker. And by using only one layer of foam tape, the elements will also be trapped in place so that there again won’t be a lot of movement.

Now we can stamp, color and die-cut all of our cute little images from the brand-new Ai Woodland Bears Set (5954). This set includes the adorable bear that we will be using today, as well as a wagon full of gift packages, stacks of gifts, a mailbox, sledding bears, little birds, a tree, star and snowflakes, and 3 coordinating sentiments! The dies are also included in this set!

The coloring will be done using the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens in the following colors: Blender, Sugared Almond Pink, Pale Rose, Dk Blossom Pink, Geranium Red, Deep Vermillion, Lt Blue, Persian Green, May Green, Deep Green, Olive Green, Mid Green, Beige, Lt Brown, Mid Brown, Lt Gray, Mid Gray.

Let’s go ahead and assemble the card and all of our cute little images to create a fun winter scene!

For a finishing touch, we can add a few of those same gems to the front of the card just to tie everything together!

Today’s card was inspired by the current Ai “Under the Dome” Blog Challenge which is to create a card or project using a shaker element or shaker dome. Any theme you like will do for this challenge. I hope you joining us in this fun challenge…we would love to see what you create!
